ABOUT THIS COMMISSION
The SF90 Stradale is what happens when Ferrari takes the familiar supercar recipe and turns the dial until the numbers start to look faintly ridiculous: a twin-turbo V8 joined by three electric motors to produce 1,000cv (986 hp), with four-wheel drive and a battery pack tucked into the architecture like some particularly potent secret.
Yet the remarkable thing is that it doesn’t feel like an engineering exercise masquerading as a Ferrari. Instead, the electricity fills the gaps, sharpens the response and gives the car an almost surreal ability to gather itself and surge towards the horizon, while the V8 provides the emotional punctuation.
There is astonishing pace here, certainly, but the real fascination lies in the way the different sources of propulsion weave together until the distinction between combustion and electric power becomes almost impossible to detect. It is less a supercar with a hybrid system bolted on than a glimpse of Ferrari’s idea of what a supercar can become when engineering is allowed to run completely free.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
“Car Fine Art”, is how Dutch Photographer Thomas Boudewijn describes his work. “I love cars and especially their design. Cars are works of art. Subtle lines, smooth curves, angular shapes, beautiful details and materials defining a car and brand.”
“The unique FDL Lighting technique (focused diffused lighting) gives me artistic freedom to create truly unique images and shoot ‘Art on Wheels’.” It’s a tribute to car designers. Using this unique lighting technique, Thomas manages to eliminate distracting reflections on a car and replace them with a silky smooth finish to really highlight the design.
In addition to car photography, Thomas also is working as a graphic designer and food & lifestyle photographer in the coffee industry. Cars are a fixed element in his life. Shooting for a variety of clients, organising Cars & Coffee events and providing FDL Workshops. “I love to pass on my photography knowledge and experience to other photographers, helping them expand their skills and provide new inspiration.
