ABOUT THIS COMMISSION
The Gallardo's story started in 1998, when Lamborghini came under Volkswagen Group ownership through Audi and began developing a second, more affordable model line. The idea wasn't new, since the Urraco and Jalpa had been earlier "junior" Lamborghinis and the Calà concept had previewed the approach. But the Gallardo arrived in 2003 as its own take on a modern Lamborghini rather than a lesser sibling to the recently launched Murciélago.
It launched with 493bhp, four-wheel drive and a 5.0-litre V10, taking on the Porsche 911, Ferrari 360 and later 430, and the Mercedes SL55 AMG. A limited-edition SE with 520bhp followed, and that engine went into the Spyder in 2006. The 2007 Superleggera cut 100kg and raised power to 530bhp. In 2008 the engine grew to 5,204cc and 560bhp, and further limited editions followed, including the rear-wheel-drive LP-550 Valentino Balboni (250 built), named after Lamborghini's longtime test driver. Production ended in 2013 with the Huracán as replacement, by which point 14,022 had been built, roughly half of all Lamborghinis made since the company began in 1963.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
“Car Fine Art”, is how Dutch Photographer Thomas Boudewijn describes his work. “I love cars and especially their design. Cars are works of art. Subtle lines, smooth curves, angular shapes, beautiful details and materials defining a car and brand.”
“The unique FDL Lighting technique (focused diffused lighting) gives me artistic freedom to create truly unique images and shoot ‘Art on Wheels’.” It’s a tribute to car designers. Using this unique lighting technique, Thomas manages to eliminate distracting reflections on a car and replace them with a silky smooth finish to really highlight the design.
In addition to car photography, Thomas also is working as a graphic designer and food & lifestyle photographer in the coffee industry. Cars are a fixed element in his life. Shooting for a variety of clients, organising Cars & Coffee events and providing FDL Workshops. “I love to pass on my photography knowledge and experience to other photographers, helping them expand their skills and provide new inspiration.
